3 Tips For Dry Skin

dry skinDry skin can be the bane of your existence. Hands feel like paper? What about your feet? Skin on your legs? What about your face? There are many downsides to dry skin if you do not take the appropriate action. In some cases, it can really age you.

So what can you do about it? Here are three simple tips on how to manage your dry skin effectively:

Moisturize Me

If you have dry skin, your daily moisturizer has never been more important. As its name suggests, you are adding moisture to your skin and reducing its dryness and flakiness. If your skin is extremely dry, though, your daily moisturizer may not do everything. You may also wish to invest in a richer moisturizer to keep on hand for your legs, arms, hands, and anywhere else not for your face. This is especially the case if you suffer from eczema.

Stay Hydrated

Water plays a critical role in your skin’s overall health, including reducing its dryness. Thus, make sure you drink lots of water throughout the day, regardless of the season. The general standard is eight glasses (eight ounces each) a day, though you may need to adjust this based on how active you are. Regardless, drinking more water is another way of giving your skin moisture, which will help manage dry skin. However, this does not work with washing your hands all the time, which can increase its dryness.

Watch Acne Products

Yes, you can have acne even if you have dry skin. In fact, sometimes your acne products are the entire reason behind your dry skin! The ingredients in these products meant to help manage your acne are drying your skin, and if you use too much, you can actually just suffer from dry skin and the whole host of issues it brings. If you still want to use acne products, such as ones with salicylic acid, look for ones that are less concentrated (e.g. with 0.5% salicylic acid instead of the common 2%). You can also reduce the frequency of use.
