A STATEMENT OF PRINCIPLES
Adopted January 23, 1993

Whereas, the American People, as owners of this nation, have over time, relinquished rights and responsibilities, as owners, to a system of government, dominated by two entrenched political parties, parties which have failed to represent the legitimate interests of the majority of American citizens, excluded that majority from active participation in government, and caused widespread cynicism and distrust of political institutions and officials; and

Whereas, Government has ceased to be the means by which individual liberty and freedom are guaranteed, but rather the means by which the ever-increasing power of government itself is ensured; and

Whereas, we desire to create a political party which will empower the owners of our country to take our country back;

Now, Therefore Be It Resolved That: We, the Founders of the Reform Party, adopt the following principles, which shall govern the process by which we establish goals, formulate policies, and enact those policies into law:

  1. We declare the primary test for the value of any policy or activity of this Party will be what is good for the country, the state, the community, and the people, NOT what is good for the Party.
  2. We shall focus our efforts to achieve reform of governmental processes, to promote fiscal responsibility, and to preserve and enhance economic and social freedom.
  3. We shall refrain from advocating policy on any issue which detracts from our Party's ability to achieve our fundamental goals.
  4. We shall encourage the active participation of citizens in government, by increasing awareness of the day-to-day workings of government, increasing access to the electoral process, and facilitating communications with elected officials.
  5. We demand that individuals entrusted with government service be held accountable and responsible to the people for the actions they take with the authority granted to them.
  6. We shall support policies to reduce the disproportionate influence narrow special interests have in the creation of our laws and the conduct of the government.
  7. We are committed to reducing the role of government in the lives of our citizens, in order to expand individual economic and social freedom.
  8. We shall seek an economic system based upon the principle of individual economic freedom to interact in a free and fair domestic and international market economy.
  9. We shall seek to enact laws which allow citizens to procure services in the private sector, rather than through government programs.
  10. We shall seek to enact economic policies which encourage fiscal responsibility and accountability on the part of both government and its citizens.
  11. We shall seek excellence in education through a system based upon equal access and competition, free from burdensome government regulation.
  12. We shall seek to promote policies which utilize the resources of this earth efficiently for the benefit of mankind while encouraging the survival of our fellow creatures and preserving our planet for those to come.
  13. We celebrate our heritage of individual liberty, recognizing that one of our greatest strengths is our diversity; and we will foster tolerance of our private citizens, their customs, beliefs and private actions, so long as they do not infringe on the rights of others.
